25th April- Lima.

Back at Casa Andina Select Hotel, Lima, and very glad of our upgraded room. All of this travel is taking it's toll a bit and I am feeling pretty worn out. In truth, I am really proud of myself for how well I've managed so far, particularly with the changing altitudes, different routines and keeping my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in check. The schedule with travel organiser Llama travel has given us plenty of much needed down time, allowing me to rest & recharge as needed. The pick ups and being dropped off at the door has helped a lot too. I couldn't have managed without it last night, as was feeling totally wiped out to the point of complete confusion & mental fatigue.

With this in mind, today was at a very slow pace, gently strolling around, stopping off for food & drinks and a lot of people watching. We found the popular area of Berlin Street, lined with bars, restaurants and cuisine of all types. We had mexican, which was delicious, washed down with the local lager ( cervasa) Cusquna.

We sat for ages at a table on the pavement watching the world go by, including license inspectors checking all of the businesses, before another gentle stroll- where the Latino sounds of the music pulled us in. The bar was tiny, with beer crates pilled up to the ceiling. We drank a vodka cocktail and reminisced about a trip to Malta years ago with the family and Mario's bar. What a night that was, with son in law Tom taking over as DJ, and kids Laura & Jamie dancing the night away ( Laura on the bar). The place was the size of a garden shed but was absolutely bouncing, attracting more and more people who danced and drank in the road outside.

Great memories.

I'll sleep well tonight.

Caroline.
